Bipolaris leaf spot on Miscanthus

This is Miscanthus in front of Fox
greenhouse on Main Campus. This plant has a
leaf spot caused by the fungal pathogen Bipolaris. The main symptoms of this
disease are leaf spots that maybe red to black in
color Since this is a fungal pathogen it is moving through spores and infection usually begins at the very
tip of the leaf and then runs down the leaf as infection spreads.
This is mostly a cosmetic problem on this Miscanthus so it’s not likely that any control
measures would be taken If you were to find Bipolaris in a turf grass setting then it would be
more likely that someone would be willing to spend the money to put a fungicide out
in order to try to maintain a green or if it’s another important form of turfgrass
